DOCUMENTATION & TRAINING

Here are some samples of various guides and documents I've written over the years. Creating guides is a great way ensure artists understand the goals of a project as well as stay on track in the future.

Training and artist development is the life blood of improving performance and efficiency. I love helping artists develop new skills and empowering them to do their job better.

The Game Canvas

Keys to Successful Video Game Imagery

Speaker Presentation - IADT Interfaces 2010

Just like any art form, the screen of a video game is incredibly complex. It's always changing. In order to make sense of it all, I suggest breaking the screen down into three distinct components. Each define a visual goal for successful execution of a particular realm of variables. All of the layers combine to create the final composite; the video game screen. If any layer is weak at any once time, the final product may suffer. Most of the time we're lucky to excel on two levels at any one instant, but we're golden when we strive to have all three at all times..

Terrain Texturing Tutorial

This was a training video I made during my time at Mythic working on Warhammer. The video demonstrates to show a process of creating textures I developed to maximize quick turnaround and allow for easy layer manipulation. Many people have found this helpful and the techniques apply to the creation of almost any painting. The video has some graphics for descriptions. Sorry, haven't had time to record audio.
